Paris Motorshow 2024

Positive thinking

Carshow - To put it simple, the 2022 Paris Motor Show was a disgrace. Apart from the French brands and an occasional stray Chinese, almost all carmakers were absent. Organisers filled the halls with classic cars, a go-kart track and more, but there was hardly any news. So for the 2024 edition, things can only get better!

Still far from all car manufacturers are present, but the offer is greater than during the previous edition. For instance, the all-German Audi is unveiling the Q6 Sportback. Besides the sloping roofline of a coupé, the Q6 Sportback offers a new battery with an 85 kWh capacity. The chassis has a sportier tuning for more driving fun.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen showcases the seventh-generation Transporter in Paris. Although the model was unveiled earlier, it will make its public debut here. Moreover, Volkswagen is showing the Transporter's many guises: from simple utility vehicle to camper van. Although already shown at several auto shows, Volkswagen is also bringing the ID.GTI Concept as a preview of the brand's upcoming generation of compact electric cars.

Kia

For Kia, the new EV3 takes centre stage, but this is only a French first. That is why Kia is also showing commercial vehicles with the PV5 Concept. Although the car was already at the IAA in Hannover, it continues to attract attention with its futuristic design. Kia has advanced plans to market the PV5 as an electric commercial vehicle. The PV5 is said to be highly customisable to its task and will be at Kia dealerships from 2025.

Skoda

Skoda is celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Fabia. Yet the Elroq takes centre stage on the stand: the mid-sized, electric-powered SUV that will be in dealerships from 2025. The Elroq promises more space and a lower price than existing offerings. The Elroq is the first model with a new style from Skoda and as far as Autozine is concerned, this is a nice development. The first test drive of the Elroq is scheduled for early December.

Leapmotor

The Chinese brand Leapmotor is now part of the European Stellantis (Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat) and introduced the B10 in Paris. This first model in the B-series and is a size smaller than the C10. Leapmotor cannot be accused of any degree of originality, but this will surely be made up for by a very competitive price.

Peugeot

The Peugeot 408 is now also available as an electric car. As usual with Peugeot, the difference between the electric and conventional models is as small as possible to lower the threshold to electric driving. In doing so, the E-408 has a range of over 450 km to offer the peace of mind of a petrol-powered car too.

Citroën

Citroën is bringing the C5 X AirCross concept (see phto) and C3 AirCross to Paris, where the model will make its public debut. The latter is based on the C3, but is significantly larger and more spacious (seven seats). The cabin design is simple to keep the price down. For now, the Paris Motor Show is the only chance to see the C3 AirCross, as the press presentation has been postponed until early 2025.

Renault

Renault brings by far the most news from "Mondial l'Automobile 2024". The new Renault 5 can be admired in all versions and colours. The Renault 4 even has its world premiere in Paris. However, both cars have already been described in detail on Autozine, so here we show the Bento and Duo from subsidiary brand Mobilize. The Duo is a micro city car  with electric drive for two people. The Bento is a commercial vehicle based on the Duo with 649 litres of cargo space.

Fillers

As with the previous edition, there are also place holders to fill the space in Paris. Among them are the now standard go-kart track and a collection of "supercars". In addition, this year there is a "pop culture" exhibition featuring vehicles from film and TV. "Progress is unstoppable" is a thematic overview of the technical development of the past decades, from T-Ford to Tesla Model S.

Conclusion

Is the 2024 Paris Motor Show better than the 2022 one? Yes it is! There is more news than before from more exhibitors from more different countries. Yet it is still the French brands that have the most scoops, with Renault having by far the most news this edition. Audi and Volkswagen also pack big, with Kia and Skoda at some distance. Again, it is the Chinese who make the show interesting with completely new brands and many new models.

Affordable small electric cars are the trend this year. The Chinese manage to break price records (in a positive sense), while the European and Korean competitors counter that with models that have to make do with design. More, better and more affordable: the latest trends are putting a positive spin on the market!
